ShakeSpirit
ShakeSpirit brings seasoned, professional artists and students together to explore the world and works of William Shakespeare. A one-of-a-kind opportunity for a one-on-one experience, ShakeSpirit provides teachers at all grade levels the opportunity to bring an artist into the classroom to guide students through a vivid, hands-on theatrical experience.
Let your imagination run wild! Would you like to recreate the experience of a ship on the high seas just moments before it crashes to its doom (The Tempest)? How about the murder of one of the world’s most famous leaders (Julius Caesar)? Maybe you’d prefer to have your students take a scene from The Taming of the Shrew or Hamlet and stage it using some of the practices used by players in Shakespeare’s day. Through consultation with the visiting artist, you will have the opportunity to craft a visit that is customized to exactly suit your needs and desires on any topic relating to Shakespeare and his theatrical world – a visit meant to bring Shakespeare off the dusty pages of a book and into life right inside your classroom.
ShakeSpirit is available for travel to schools across North Carolina and beyond. For funding assistance, NCSF recommends that interested teachers seek support from their local school system and/or community and arts organizations.
Rate per hour/per artist: $100
Rate per full school day/per artist: $350
Travel fees may also apply, depending on presenter location.
